Alan John Dahlquist was born December 11, 1959, in Duluth, Minnesota, to Ellsworth “Al” and Irene Mary (Gustafson) Dahlquist. He was raised with two brothers and three sisters in Duluth, where he graduated high school before enlisting in the Army. Alan served three years on active duty, he then moved to Oregon and attended Lane Community College in Eugene. It was here that he met and fell in love with Norma Jean Simons; the two were married on September 24, 1989. Alan then enlisted in the Army Reserves where he would serve for 3 more years, being trained, and promoted to Drill Sergeant, then promoted and honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant E6. The couple lived in Eugene, Springfield, Salem, and Vancouver, Washington. They settled in Silverton to live and raise their daughter together. Alan adored his wife and daughter and cherished the time he spent with them, friends, and his extended family. Alan’s passion was ice hockey, which he played for more than 40 years of his life and was a life-long fan of the sport. He even won the Portland Rose Festival Ice Hockey Game MVP award. On September 23, 2021, just one day shy of their 32nd wedding anniversary, Alan passed away in Salem, Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents Al and Irene Dahlquist of Duluth, Minnesota. Alan was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend. Alan will be deeply missed by those he left behind, including his wife, Norma Dahlquist; daughter Amanda Dahlquist; and siblings Roy, David, Laura, Karen, and Sandra of Minnesota.
