“AJ” Alvah James McNaughton was born on April 27, 1951 in Manchester, New Hampshire to Ralph McNaughton and Martha Spearin. He grew up on the east coast and eventually made his way to the west coast. AJ served in the United States Marine Corps before being honorably discharged. AJ graduated with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. Through his life he would seek on the job knowledge and always wanted to learn something new. He was a respiratory therapist, deputy sheriff, behavioral specialist and many other jobs. AJ was a jack of all trades, and if he didn’t know something he would read until he was an expert on the subject matter. While working a job as a behavioral specialist for the state of Oregon, AJ met Juanita Spires and they shared a special connection for the last 12 years. AJ retired from the state in 2013 and enjoyed retirement. In the morning he would go out and have coffee with other local early birds. After coffee, he would ride his bicycle 12 miles every day around Lebanon and would work out religiously. AJ enjoyed being healthy and active. AJ also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, collecting knives, and going to various trade shows. He was also an expert leather craftsman and would make gun holsters, knife sheaths, belts and emergency bracelets. Most of all AJ had a big heart; he and Juanita would volunteer at the mission. They would serve meals together, take clothing and would help anyone in need. He had a passion for helping those homeless or less fortunate. After a very brief illness, AJ passed away on November 8, 2019 at age 68 in Albany, Oregon. He is survived by his significant other, Juanita Spires and his brother, Paul McNaughton in addition to other family members and friends.A celebration of life with military honors will be held at the American Legion Post 51
