Obituary for Barbara Jean Nash

Barbara was born on May 15, 1934 in Vancouver British Columbia to George and Myrtle Tookey. She lived in Canada until she was 13 years old, when her parents decided to relocate to the United States for work.

The family first lived in Bremerton, but then moved to Salem Oregon. Barbara attended and graduated from North Salem High School. She would attend one year of college at Oregon State University in Corvallis, but eventually decided that her calling in life was to be a homemaker.

While shopping at Wolworth’s she met the love of her life, Thomas Nash. They had an instant connection and would marry on May 21, 1954. Together, they began a family and had four children. Barbara was an amazing homemaker who could cook and bake, but also was talented at so many things. She could knit and make wool socks, quilt by hand, painted and carved. She even made Christmas ornaments by hand for her family members.

Barbara was truly a master of the home. She loved to attend garage sales and find “treasures” that she could restore. With one of her friends she would make teddy bears by hand and store them.

Barbara enjoyed camping and never met a stranger, she was known for her quit whit and good sense of humor. You also would always know where you stood with Barbara, as she told it like it was.

Over the last several years, she battled numerous health issues but she always remained positive. On May 16, 2020 Barbara passed away one day after her birthday. She was able to celebrate turning 86 years of age.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be greatly missed. Barbara was preceded in death by her son, Richard “Dick” Nash. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Thomas Nash; children, Bob Nash, Jim Nash and Linda Nash; numerous grandchildren in addition to her neighbors and friends.
