Boyd Owen Brougher was born on August 21, 1932, in Great Bend, Kansas to Otis and Ira (Fisher) Brougher. The family would move to Goshen Oregon when Boyd was three where he would go on to graduate high school and then earn his master’s degree from the University of Oregon.  Boyd would move to Salem in 1978.  He married Jean Brougher in Salem on March 21, 1981.  Boyd would enlist in the US Army in 1954 but would be medically discharged due to injuries sustained during his military service.  After military service, Boyd worked as a teacher, logger and writer.   Boyd was a fun-loving, adventurous, generous, and creative lover of life.  His favorite role was that of Santa Claus. In his spare time though he enjoyed woodworking, reading, writing and doing outdoor activities. In 1957, in a statewide bodybuilding competition, he was awarded the title of Mr. Oregon.  On August 27, 2021, Boyd passed away in Lebanon, Oregon. He was preceded in passing by his parents Otis and Ira; daughter Teresa; and brother Jim.  He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years Jean; children Linda Drew, Deanne (Otis) Clayton; and Jan (Perry) Bodeen; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Darlene, Karl and Sheryl.  A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on October 4, 2021, at Roseburg National Cemetery in Roseburg, Oregon.
