Obituary for Daisy Winifred Miller

Daisy Winifred Miller passed peacefully to enter her Heavenly rest on May 14, 2019 at the age of 91.Having quietly left earth she was joyously welcomed by her Savior. The second of four children born to James and Winifred Wing, Daisy was born in her parents home in Longview, Washington. The family moved about in the northwest as her father provided for them as a laborer. Daisy had many memories of her childhood in Tygh Valley, Oregon. She often spoke of the rattlesnakes encountered and horseback rides taken in the area. Her mother taught her to cook and Daisy told of the time she made a cherry pie for her father. Even though she did not pit the cherries her father enjoyed every bite of the pie. She graduated from Castle Rock High School in 1946. Daisy was never afraid to try new things. She wanted to learn to waterski and SCUBA dive as an adult and met with varying success. As these, and other activities, kept her close to her children it didn't really matter if she was good at them. Daisy also followed her children through their schooling as a room mother, PTA president at elementary, Jr. high and high school level, and as a member of the OSU Mother's Club. She also had a great love for travel, having visited Europe several times, Israel on three occassions, and traveled to the Cayman Islands, Honduras, Bali, China, and made several trips to Guam. Her working life, outside the home, began when she became an assistant cook at Queen Anne School in Lebanon. She worked a variety of jobs after that for the Lebanon School District, serving in the Central Office and at LUHS. After retiring from the district she worked at the Walmart store in McMinnville, Oregon for nearly a decade. Daisy's greatest joy came from her family. After marrying Wendell P. Miller in April 1948, she delivered four children, Karen (1952), Philip (1953), Janet (1957), and James (1959). The family home was in Lebanon, Oregon as the children attended Santiam Grade School, Lebanon Jr. High, and Lebanon Union High School. At her death, Daisy had six grandchildren, six greatgrandchildren, and one great great grandchild. She always felt that each of these 'belonged' to her and she loved them all very much. After accepting Jesus Christ as her Savior as a young adult, Daisy kept herself and her family involved in her church. She was a longtime member of Lebanon First Baptist Church and taught Sunday School classes there.  Daisy was preceeded in death by her older sister, Barbara and her husband of 35 years, Wendell. She is survived by her younger sister Velma, and brother James. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Wednesday, May 22, at First Baptist Church in Lebanon.
