A service with military honors will be held at Weddle Funeral Service on Sunday, May 20, 2018 at 2pm for Donald “Don” McDougal who passed away on April 30, 2018 in Woodburn, Oregon at age 89. Don was born on December 1, 1928 in Alma, Nebraska to Charles and Mildred (Baker) McDougal. At age 18, Don entered the United States Navy in December of 1945 and was honorably discharged as an EM1 in October of 1949 after he served in WWII. Don was incredibly proud of his military service. After his service he became a member of the Disabled Veterans of America. On October 17, 1948 he married Eleanor Thornton in Yuma, Arizona. They moved to Salem, Oregon in 1958 and later on they moved to Turner, Oregon in 1959 settling there in the community. Throughout his life Don had many trades he worked throughout his lifetime, such as a material scrapper, paver and Marion County Deputy Sherriff. He also bred birds and for several years owned a bird aviary, in addition to owning a store at one point. He enjoyed working on his property, traveling and in his younger years hunting. Don also was a long time member of Foothills Community Church. He is pre-deceased by his wife, Eleanor and a daughter Kyle Ann McDougal. He is survived by his children, Michael McDougal, Gloria Whitfield, Thelma Floyd, Larry McDougal, and Brian McDougal; multiple grandchildren and multiple nieces and nephews in addition to his close friends Cari and Billy Sessums and Carrie Derrick.
