Donnie Lee Owens was born on August 8, 1955 in Yreka, California to Waldon and Dorothy (Allen) Owens. His entire life he grew up in Oregon and attended Cascade High School. While in high school Donnie would compete on the track team. He would also follow in his father’s footsteps in finding his strength in mechanic work. Donnie would work as a self-employed mechanic most of his life. Being a mechanic wasn’t just work to Donnie, it was also his hobby. In his spare time he enjoyed working on his cars and tinkering. Donnie could be described on the outside as looking gruff, but once you spoke to him realized what a teddy bear he truly was. He easily made friends with just about anyone and kids always seemed to like him. Donnie enjoyed being social and making friends with anyone he met. Throughout his life he suffered a lot of medical setbacks but no matter what he kept a positive outlook. He loved to keep things light hearted and joke around. Fifteen years ago he moved to Lyons, Oregon and made many friends. One of his favorite things was to go to the Red Barn Bar and Grill to visit with his friends and play the poker machines. On January 7, 2020 Donnie passed away at age 64. He was predeceased by his father, Waldon and survived by his mother, Dorothy; children, Vicky-Kay, Dawn, Jim and Wesley; siblings, Nancy, Connie and Paul in addition to 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held from 2- 5pm on January 25, 2020 at the Stayton Community Center. Weddle Funeral Service entrusted with arrangements.
