Dwight Pickett Billman, long-time Salem resident and attorney, passed away March 31, 2018 due to complications from cancer. A native of California, Dwight was born August 7, 1939 to Esther Luella Lisle and Howard Dwight Billman in Santa Rosa. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Everett and Howard. He graduated from Orosi High School in 1957, attended Princeton Theological Seminary, and was a Presbyterian missionary in Sitka, AK, where he taught at Sheldon Jackson College. He graduated from Willamette University in 1962 with a BA in History, then a Doctorate of Jurisprudence in 1969. He was a member of the Oregon State Bar, and practiced law in Salem until 2014. Dwight had many talents and interests, was an accomplished 12-string guitar player and singer, built his own homestead, and liked to hunt and sail. His love of fly fishing found him tying flies for a lifetime of trips with his fishing buddies on the Deschutes River. He took many people on the great adventures and hobbies that defined his life. We will always wonder what the secret was to his famous smoked salmon dip. He is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth Mann, and Suzanne Billman, three grandsons, and two great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Saturday, May 5th at 2:00pm.
