Edith “Edie” Sue Higgins Our dearly beloved mother, grandmother, “auntie” and friend, who gave her love to everyone she encountered, passed away on April 7, 2020 at age 60 in her home in Salem, Oregon.  She is now watching from Heaven over her sons Jeremy and Willie, daughter Melissa, daughter-in-law Charlene, and grandchildren Grant, Cole, and Anna – along with countless dear nieces, nephews, and friends.   Edie was born April 16, 1959 in Portland, Oregon to Donald and Mary Lou Higgins.  She was one of six siblings – Wendy, Jim, Greg, Mary and Donnie.  She grew up in Toledo, Oregon and graduated from Toledo High School.   Edie never shied from hard work and could do anything from sewing, cooking, construction, farming, pulling green chain at a plywood mill, and was just as capable in a corporate office.  She attended Western Oregon University where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Master’s degree in Counseling.  She served most recently as Program Manager for Easter Seals of Oregon’s Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program, where she worked tirelessly to help Veterans find work, housing and normalcy in their lives.  Edie was a special light in this world who gave everything she had to make this world a better place.  She loved pigs and strawberries…way too much.  Most of all, though, she loved people unconditionally.  She is remembered by all for her big smile, warm laugh, and comforting hugs…and her pigs.  Edie was the go-to person in so many people’s lives whenever they needed help, advice or friendship.  Nobody left her home without plenty of hugs and a full belly.  She sacrificed and dedicated her life to the service and support of others and will be missed dearly by her friends, colleagues, and countless loved ones she considered family.
