FRED FLASH LAVETT

May 31, 1920 ~ April 7, 2012

Passed away on April 7th, 2012 age 91, at the Windsor Monterey Care Facility.  He left this world peacefully with his long time friends Bob and Jocelyn Tuscany at his side.  Fred was born in Oregon City, Oregon on May 31, 1920.  He spent his early years living in Brooks, Oregon.  He and his family moved to California in the 1930’s.  He lived in Seaside, CA since the early 1940’s.  Fred was a veteran of World War II serving in the 77th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army.  Fred was combat wounded in Okinawa.  He was extremely proud to be a member of the fraternity of veterans.  After serving, Fred put together his own baseball team he named the “Lavett’s All Stars”.  Eventually his war injuries made it too difficult to play baseball so he transitioned to horseshoes.  He became an avid player and followed the game all over the country.  He won numerous trophies.  TV personality Charles Kuralt of “On The Road With Charles Kuralt” fame, once interviewed him about his horseshoe pitching technique.  He helped to maintain the Seaside horseshoe courts for years.  He also took great pleasure in playing cribbage with family and friends.  Fred was a kind, caring, and generous person.  He was loved in his community.  He is predeceased by his wife and companion Genevieve. His family and friends will definitely miss Fred.
