January 21, 1947 April 15-2018 Foster was born in Salem, OR to Ray and Leona Thayer.  He enlisted in the Army in 1965 after graduating from Cascade High School.  Foster’s four-year enlistment had him assigned to the 82nd Airborne then to the 101st Airborne.  Foster served one tour in Vietnam where he was awarded the Combat Infantryman’s Badge and Bronze Star Medal.  Foster met Joanne Dahlen in 1966 while the two were each dating different people.  Through a series of events, they wound up together. The two would marry one year later in 1967, two weeks before Foster left for Vietnam.  After being honorably discharged, at the rank of Staff Sergeant, he worked in the paper industry at Boise Cascade for 27 years then became a contracted driver for the United States Post Office until retirement. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 51 years Joanne; a daughter, Leslie, and a son Philip. Foster will be inurned at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon following the rendering of Honors on June 15th 2018 at 1:00 PM.
