Gloria Faye Dupree

Gloria Faye Dupree was born July 7, 1957, in Kaplan, Louisiana, to Dudley and Ulialia Trahan. Gloria was the youngest of eight children and was especially close to her mother even as a child. When Gloria was in her late teens, she and her mother set out on their own and moved into a home together. Emmitt Stewart, a Louisiana native that had moved to Oregon, caught Gloria’s eye while he was back in Louisiana for a short time. Emmitt made it clear he was moving back to Oregon and the morning he was to leave, Gloria and her mother were in his car with a suitcase each, ready for a grand adventure. Gloria’s family thought she has lost her marbles, and were not too happy that she was taking her mother so far away, but the two women had made up their minds.They had never been anywhere outside Louisiana and a cross-country road trip did not disappoint. Ulialia never took her eyes off the windows, even in the black of night, as she did not want to miss a thing. Just as they came into Boulder, Colorado, the adventure true to its form threw them a curve ball and their car broke down. Thankfully it was a simple fix recognized immediately by the local mechanic and the group was back on the road by the next day.Gloria, her mother, and Emmitt settled in the Salem area and never regretted leaving the South. They all loved Oregon with its mild climate and vast natural diversity and immense beauty. Gloria loved being a homemaker and caring for her son Michael and her mother, and she doted on Emmitt and his every need. Michael and Emmitt were her whole life and she took wonderful care of them. Gloria was a beautiful human being, loving and kind, always caring for others. She cared for her mom until her death about ten years after they came out west.Gloria and Emmitt had one of those rare and precious love stories and were very happy together for over 25 years until she passed away suddenly on July 5, 2019. Gloria will be deeply missed by her husband Emmitt, son Michael, and two grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her parents and siblings Ella Mae Trahan and Pat Trahan. She also leaves behind her siblings Ronald “Butch” Trahan, Tommi Trahan, Warren Trahan, Royallan Trahan, and Elizabeth Marie Trahan.
