Gregary Alan Sapaugh was born June 15, 1964, in Tillamook, Oregon, to Donald James and Joann Margaret (Kesch) Sapaugh. The family lived in Pacific City overlooking Haystack rock until Greg was about six months old. Don was in the Air Force and had to move the family near where he was stationed, so they bought a house in Monmouth where they lived for two years before they sold the house to move onto base at Camp Adair near Corvallis. They stayed at Adair for another two years before moving on to several new assignments in Florida, North Dakota, Fairbanks, Colorado Springs, and finally McChord AFB. After graduating high school, Greg moved to Scio and worked his way up from custodian to third in charge of grocery at the Albany Fred Meyer. He took classes at Chemeketa Community College and online courses at Southern Oregon and earned an associate’s degree in business. Greg then took a job at the Oregon Department of Corrections, starting out installing phones then worked his way up to investigator. He also earned his realtor’s license and worked in real estate for a time before buying the Black Diamond Poker Room in Albany where he worked for the last six years. Over the years, Greg lived in Salem, Woodburn, and Albany, married several times and became the father of six children. His first marriage was to Deanna and they had one son, Matthew. He them married Angela and together they had a daughter Chantle. The last time he married was to Margaret and the couple had twin boys, Chris and Kyle. Greg them met Manette and although they did not marry, he became father to her daughter Hailee Emra and they had one son together, Brodyn Emra-Sapaugh. Greg had a weird sense of humor and loved to laugh and joke. He liked to go camping, especially the yearly family camping trips at Timothy Lake. He enjoyed a good drink of whiskey and beer and a dip of Copenhagen. He wasn’t a big fisherman, but did like to spend time fishing with his Uncle Larry. Being born at the ocean, it seems that the love of the sea was just a part of him. He loved to visit the coast when he could, and life came full circle for him when he passed away overlooking the ocean near Tillamook on October 18, 2019. Greg is survived by his parents Donald and Joann Sapaugh; children Matthew (Samantha) Sapaugh, Chris Sapaugh, Kyle Sapaugh, Chantle (Chris Handy) Sapaugh, Brodyn Emra-Sapaugh, and Hailee Emra; grandchildren Marcus, Charlotte, and Cylis; and a brother Brently Sapaugh. Family is planning services for a later date.
