Obituary for Hazel Evelyn Lee

Hazel Evelyn Dively was born on October 15, 1936 in Stayton, Oregon at the original Stayton Hospital now known as the Brown House. Her parents, Dewey and Alice (Martin) Dively raised Hazel in the downtown area of Stayton. Hazel attended West Stayton Elementary and eventually graduated from Cascade High School. After high school, Hazel married Robert Edward Lee in Kelso, Washington on April 6, 1956.

Together, they began a family and were blessed with three children. Hazel was the ultimate homemaker who took care of her family by cooking, cleaning and driving the kids around to all their activities. She was always making crafts of some type – ceramics, sand candles, mop dolls, jewelry boxes, t-shirts. On Sunday it was not uncommon for her to make breakfast before church and also have a big family dinner to start the week off right.

Hazel attended Marion Friends Church for several years. She was very social and over the years made numerous friends that became her family. She had her group of ladies that she would play bunco and bingo with. She loved to travel with friends and family, her last big cruise being to Alaska.

After retiring in 1998 from the State of Oregon Correction Department, she still kept busy by selling Avon. Hazel enjoyed getting out and doing things, but when she was at home she enjoyed reading a good book.

Hazel passed away on January 31, 2020 at age 83 in Aumsville, Oregon. She was preceded by her husband, Robert in 1996 and by a son, James in 2002 and a brother, Lawrence Dively. She is survived by her son, Daniel Robert Lee and daughter, Peggy Sue Weigel in addition to four grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

A service will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 1pm at Weddle Funeral Service in Stayton, Oregon. She will then be transported and buried at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.
