Obituary for John Malcolm Lampman

John Malcolm Lampman was born September 22, 1935, in Stayton, Oregon, to Marion Elmer and Veleda (Darley) Lampman. He was born in the historic Brown House when it operated as Stayton’s hospital. His Darley cousins lived nearby and they made many memories playing together growing up. John told stories about the fun he had “stealing” his uncle’s tractor to drive around at night. It was all fun and games until he rolled that tractor one night and nearly killed himself. He never borrowed the tractor again. John married his childhood sweetheart, Dorothy Markham, on January 17, 1952. The couple remained in the area and started a family, raising three children together. John started farming and loved the time he spent working the land. Eventually he moved on to auto machining and steel fabrication. There was nothing John couldn’t do and one of his proudest accomplishments was building a home for his family all on his own in 1964. Early in his adult life, John started taking flying lessons but it wouldn’t be until later in life that he was able to obtain his pilot’s license. He owned a boat for many years and loved to take the boat out on the lakes to fish or play. John enjoyed snow skiing, water skiing, riding 3-wheelers on the beach, and airplanes. The Steens mountains were a special place to John, he loved camping and hunting there. He had a passion for anything outdoors, from hunting and fishing to camping and boating. John also had a yellow 1975 Ford pickup that he loved, and it is still parked in the garage at the family home he built so long ago. The world lost a good man on June 23, 2020, when John passed away at the age of 84. He was so many things; a machinist, builder, fabricator, farmer, pilot, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, cousin and friend.  He was feisty and a fighter and was known for being able to build or fix anything and could make any machine run that wasn't. John struggled health wise for many years, and as sad as his family is to see him go, they are very grateful that he doesn't have to struggle anymore. The Lampman family would like to express thanks to everyone that has helped them both emotionally and physically. It was very much appreciated! John will be very missed by his wife of 68 years, Dorothy; children Valerie (Jeff) Glidewell, Randy (Karmen) Lampman, and Allen (Roni) Lampman; grandchildren Nicholas (Brittney) Glidewell, Maleah (Josh) Barrett, Landen Lampman, and Jalen Lampman; and 5 great-grandchildren.
