Karen M. Stanley was born November 26, 1944, in Portland, Oregon, to Melvin Weldon and Olga A. (Smith) Horner. She grew up with one brother in the Portland area, graduating from Beaverton High School in 1964. After high school, Karen attended business school. She married Donald Stanley on February 18, 1967, and the couple welcomed two sons. When Don’s work closed its offices in Oregon, the family transferred to Florida for about ten years before heading back to the Pacific Northwest, first in Washington, then back to Oregon for good. Karen was a terrific wife, mother, and grandmother and took wonderful care of her family and home. She was a fantastic cook, always making sure her family had healthy home-cooked meals. Although she worked many years outside the home as a buyer’s assistant at Tektronix, she always took time to care for her family and still managed to find time to devote to her creative hobbies. Karen was a quilter, sewer, and crafter. She made quilts and blankets for her family and created gifts for the new grandbabies as the family grew. Karen had a room in the house dedicated to her projects and she was so proud of the custom sewing cabinet that Don made for her room. Family meant the world to Karen and she loved them all fiercely, cherishing her time first as a wife, then as a mother, and then grandmother, and finally great-grandmother. She was a good friend to those she cared about and will be remembered for her love and kindness. Karen and Don shared more than 53 years of marriage, doing everything together. They loved camping and being outdoors, and for a time had a Seaswirl ski boat and enjoyed their time water skiing and boating - the annual family and friends gatherings at Lake Billy Chinook their favorite. On Thursday, October 22, 2020, Karen passed-away at her home in Jefferson with her family by her side. After a long hard battle with cancer, Karen is finally resting at peace in the arms of Jesus. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Larry Gene Horner. Karen is survived by her husband Don; sons Alan M Stanley of Jefferson, Oregon, and Mark D Stanley of Deltona, Florida; grandchildren Kelsey Renee Stanley, Sarah Elizabeth Stanley, Adrian Michelle Stanley, Kyle Robert Stanley, and Craig James Stanley; and great grandchildren Dimitri Alexander Kriegel, Tobias William Kriegel, Jocelyn Marie Long-Ellis, Michael James Long-Ellis, Hudson Davis Wilcox, and Cordelia Ethel Wilcox.
