Katie Hathaway passed away at age 68 on December 4, 2018 in Salem, Oregon. She was born Kathryn Elizabeth Flategraff in Oakland, California to Halvard and Kathryn Elizabeth Flategraff VII on March 28, 1950. She attended Chemeketa Community College nursing program and was the top of her class. It was here that she meant her future husband, Michael Hathaway. They were married for 25 years but later divorced. Together, they had a daughter Tara. Katie quit nursing school to be a full-time stay at home mom but her thirst to learn new things never stopped. She loved to exercise her brain by memorizing long poems verbatim and reciting them. She also loved to read, Hitchcock being one of her favorite authors. She enjoyed comedy like The Three Stooges and Laurel and Hardy. Katie introduced her daughter Tara to world music and dance, and in addition loved to watch her play the accordion. She taught Tara to treat people equally, be accepting and kind to people, animals and plants. Katie loved cats, rescued them and could convince a feral cat to become her friend. She also gardened and grew the largest tomatoes in addition to collecting seeds/starts. Katie enjoyed visiting the Oregon Garden and seeing all the plant life. She was a gifted artist who had various artworks displayed at different galleries. Katie is preceded in death by her mother, father and brother Eric Flategraff.
