Obituary for Norman Lee Kallhoff

Lebanon- Norman Kallhoff was born in Los Angeles, California, to Leo and Opal Kallhoff. The couple parted ways when Norman was three years old. He lived in several areas, some with Opal and some with Leo, and attended many different schools. Norman was employed at Western Lithograph in Los Angeles when he was drafted into the United States Army and was sent to Vietnam. While serving he was part of the Big Red 1 infantry and was injured badly when he stepped on an anti-personnel mine.  Because of this Norman was transferred to Letterman Hospital in San Francisco.  He would later be discharged on September 16, 1966 after receiving 2 Purple Hearts, Vietnam Service Medal and Combat Infantryman’s Badge. It was at the hospital where he would meet Pauline Kral (Polly), was also serving in the Army and was working as an x-ray technician. The two started dating and would be married in 1967. They had three children and lived all their married life in Oregon.

In his spare time, Norman enjoyed outdoor work and being outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being in nature. His hobby was playing pool.

On September 3, 2020 Norman passed away in Salem, Oregon.  He was preceded in passing by his parents, Opal (Dale) Cromwell and Leo (Mary) Kallhoff; and one sister.  He is survived by his loving wife Polly; Children, Jenny (Craig) Combs, Susie (Ralph) Schultz, and Mark (Jessica) Kallhoff; Grandchildren, Ashley, Cameron, Owen, Silas and Ralph IV; Great-granddaughter, Avery and 5 brothers and sisters.
