Ronald Dewain Hays

November 8, 1949 – January 27, 2010
Lyons, Oregon

Ronald Dewain Hays passed away at home on January 27 after a short battle with brain cancer (glioblastoma). Ron was born in Eugene to Donald and Frances Hays. He graduated from South Salem High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Jane Elmore, on December 29, 1967.

Ron is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jane; parents Donald and Paula Hays; brothers Terry, Leroy; Sisters Kathy Lynn, Lori; daughter Barbara; son Brian; grandsons, Troy, Bill, Riley, Carl, Logan; granddaughters, Valerie, Amber; great-granddaughter Rhianna.

Ron was a hard worker. In the early years, he worked on farms tending dairy cows and baling hay. He went on to work for Champion Lumber in Idahna, Freres Lumber in Lyons, and most recently Sun Valley Trucking in Scio.

He could fix or build almost anything. He kept their home and cars in working order for many years. When something needed done that he didnt know how to do, he learned (dehorn cows, neuter pigs, fix broken plumbing pipes in the yard, build a steel shed to house Janes mushroom business, bulldoze the old house to make way for the new house, etc). Ron spent many family vacations driving a pickup and camper to a far corner of Oregon right after getting off his night shift at work. He taught his kids how to play chess, checkers, rummy, and Yahtzee and spent many hours playing with them. Ron and Jane were a pair. He loved her and depended on her to make his life complete. He will be missed.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 6 at New Hope Community Church, 657 North 2nd Avenue, Stayton.

Donations may be sent in Rons name to OHSU Knight Cancer Institute, Brain and CNS Cancer Research, 1121 SW Salmon St, Suite 200, Portland , OR 97205 or via their website,

Arrangements entrusted to Weddle Funeral Services Stayton, Oregon.
