William H. Taff was born on March 4, 1930, in Belleville, Michigan to Harry and Alma (Candler) Taff. He had three other siblings, Walter, Alice and Nola. He graduated from Belleville High School and would eventually become a journeyman electrician. Before becoming an electrician, William served in the United States Airforce for 6 years; he was not a pilot but flew missions into Berlin during the blockade of Berlin after WWII. Following his service during WWII, he would continue to serve during the Korean War. Eventually, William’s life would take him to meeting his future wife, Claudine Griffin and they married on October 4, 1958, in Belleville, Michigan. Eventually, they would move to Laguna Hills, California, followed by Salem, Oregon. Claudine would proceed him in death in 2015. Most recently William was living in Lyons, Oregon, when not working, he enjoyed bowling in his free time and continued to do so until he was 87. William was also an avid college football fan and rooted for Michigan and Michigan State University. Besides football, he also enjoyed basketball. William loved animals and from the time he was a little boy he always had dogs. He had four dogs up until about 2 years ago, when his dogs passed away within two years of each other. William passed away on July 6, 2021, in Salem, Hospital at age 91.
