Alvin M. Ferdig Jr., affectionately known as Mike, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2023, at Evergreen Hospice House in Albany, Oregon where he received tender, loving care from the staff. Born on March 29, 1944, in Redding, California, Mike was a beacon of joy and laughter, leaving a deep and lasting impact on all those fortunate enough to have known him.
Mike was the beloved son of the late Alvin and Margaret Ferdig. He grew up alongside his dear sister, Patricia Ferdig, creating a lifetime of cherished memories. He married Suzanne Foy in July of 1969, they divorced in 1993, but remained best friends throughout the remainder of his life. Mike was a proud and doting father to his two daughters, Gentry Christine and Jody Lyn, who remember him as a guiding light throughout their lives. His love for his family was boundless, and he was always there with a listening ear and a comforting word.
Mike attended Corvallis High School, where he first demonstrated his adventurous spirit and friendly nature. His education laid the foundation for a fulfilling career at Evanite Fiber, where he worked until his retirement. Mike was known for his strong work ethic and a keen sense of responsibility, contributing significantly to the organization during his tenure.
Mike was more than just his professional achievements; he was a man of diverse interests. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, finding peace and tranquility in nature. He loved to listen to country music, eat greasy breakfasts, collect old trucks and shotguns and watch Gun Smoke. He also enjoyed playing golf and softball, his competitive spirit shining through in every game. Yet, it was his sense of humor that truly set him apart. He was wicked funny and could tell a story like no one with punchline riddled throughout. He was the life of the party, his laughter proving infectious to those around him.
Mike will be remembered as a loving father, husband, a devoted brother, and a steadfast friend. His adventurous spirit, friendly demeanor, and unique sense of humor endeared him to many. He had the ability to make everyone feel special and valued, a trait that will be sorely missed.
