Anna "Kibby" Catherine Allen

Anna Catherine Allen “Kibby”, born June 15, 1927, in Preston, Idaho, to Emma (Foss) and David McClun, lived a long and spirited life marked by curiosity, hospitality, and a deep devotion to her family. She passed away on February 20th, 2026 in Sublimity, Oregon. Raised in Preston Idaho, she carried with her a love of learning that led her to the University of Idaho and later Washington State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Drama. During her college years, she was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Theta, forming friendships and memories that stayed with her throughout her life.

After completing her education and starting a family, Kibby began her career as a high school teacher in Battleground, Washington, where she taught in Room 222. Her warmth, humor, and steady presence made her a beloved figure to her students. In 1971, she embarked on a new chapter, purchasing and operating the Surf n Sand Motel on the Oregon coast. There, she raised her family while managing the day‑to‑day life of the motel, creating a home that was always open, lively, and full of heart.

Following the sale of the motel, Kibby moved to Anderson Island in Puget Sound before eventually settling in Sublimity, Oregon, where she spent the last 17 years of her life. No matter where she lived, she cultivated community with ease. She loved to entertain, and nothing brought her more joy than gathering her family and friends together. Holidays, summers, and ordinary days alike were made special by her thoughtful planning, her laughter, and her gift for making everyone feel welcome.

Kibby enjoyed reading and, in her younger years, spent many happy hours golfing. She cherished her summers on Lake Pend Oreille in Idaho. She was also one of the founders of the Newport Wine and Seafood Festival, a testament to her creativity and her love of bringing people together. As a member of the PEO Sisterhood, she dedicated time and energy to supporting educational opportunities for women.

Her sense of humor was one of her most memorable traits. Her grandsons will forever treasure their memories of “Grannie Camps,” her playful holiday traditions, and the legendary “Reindeer Milk” and “Reindeer Games” that made every celebration magical.

Kibby is survived by her children, Jennifer Roe (David) and Henry “Hank” Allen (Connie), and by her beloved grandsons Sam Roe, Matt Roe, Ben Allen, and Alex Allen. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emma and David McClun; her daughter, Katie Allen; her brother, David McClun; and her sister, Dorothy Chamberlin.

Kibby lived a life filled with purpose, generosity, and joy. Her legacy lives on in the family she adored, the communities she helped build, and the countless memories she created with those she loved.
