Barbara Jo Young, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on July 24, 2025, at the age of 76.
Born on September 10, 1948, in Firebaugh, California, to Mary Caton and Eugene Perry, Barbara was a gentle, generous spirit whose kindness touched all who knew her. She later made her home in Oregon, where she spent the last 21 years of her life surrounded by the beauty of nature and the warmth of her family.
Barbara was married to the love of her life, Sanford Young, and together they built a loving home filled with laughter, compassion, and enduring strength. Though Sanford preceded her in death, his memory lived on in the family they cherished.
Barbara is survived by her devoted daughters Barbette Gallinger, Sherry Hunter, Sandra Young, and son Sandy Young, as well as her dear son-in-law Edward Hunter. She also adopted as her own Marianne and Robert Van Winkle.
She was a proud and loving grandmother to Joseph Gallinger, Eddie Hunter, Douglas Hunter, Arielle Coffey, and Payton Young, Dallias Van Winkle and Daezia Van Winkle and was blessed with seven great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy.
She is also lovingly remembered by her siblings Teddy Perry, Paula Perry, Teresa Perry, Richard Bontrager, and Ron Bontrager. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Sanford, and her brother Rick Perry.
Barbara had a deep love for books and found joy in the thrill of watching horse races. She delighted in collecting “little pretties” — charming glass and porcelain figurines that spoke to her appreciation for the simple and beautiful things in life. Her home was a reflection of her gentle soul and generous heart.
Those who knew Barbara will remember her unwavering kindness and giving spirit. She was the kind of person who would offer the shirt off her back to someone in need, never hesitating to extend compassion and care. She leaves behind a legacy of love, humility, and selflessness that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
