Betty was born on September 28, 1929 in McMinnville, Oregon to Ed and Ruby Ricks. She passed away on June 5, 2026 in Salem, Oregon at The Springs at Lancaster Village where she lived for the past 10 years. In her early years, her family moved to Jefferson, Oregon. In 1953, they moved their young family to Rosedale, Oregon where they raised their 5 kids. After years of taking her kids to bean and berry fields throughout Salem, she went to work at United Growers Cannery (Flavorpak). She then went to school to learn about flower arranging and went to work at Jary's Flowers where she retired after 15 years.

She had many interests including sewing, quilting, reading, gardening, crocheting, beadwork, bird watching, camping, fishing, and her beloved cats. She was awarded numerous ribbons at the Oregon State Fair for her beautiful flower arrangements.
