Betty Guy Harrell, age 91, of Salem, Oregon passed away on February 21st, 2026.

Betty was born on December 4, 1934 to Robert Guy Carter and Allie Bernice (Walker) Carter in Laurel, Mississippi, where Betty spent her younger years.

She moved to Gilchrist, Oregon when she was 8, returning to Mississippi a few years later. Betty worked as a secretary for Mechling Barge Lines for several years before returning to Gilchrist, Oregon, this time with 3 of her 4 children in 1972. She eventually settled in Salem, Oregon in 1978. She attended Chemeketa Community College and received her Practical Nursing Certificate. She passed her exam and became Licensed Practical Nurse for 15 years. She bought her home in Salem at that time.

Betty enjoyed all forms of art. She made her children's clothes on her sewing machine and enjoyed knitting caps, sweaters, and blankets. Betty had a talent for painting beautiful landscapes. She also made quite a few unique items in ceramics classes. Her love for music was exceptional, playing piano, guitar, banjo, ukelele, and the accordian. She loved to sing, especially while playing the piano.

Betty dedicated her life to her family and friends while devoting her time as a nurse to help her patients to find comfort. Her love for life kept her strong when times were tough. Betty's love for family and friends will dwell in all of the hearts that she touched in her 91 years of life.

Betty is survived by her children Carolyn Bastida, Johnnie Brown, Linda Wickham, and Dennis Brown. She is also survived by her grandchildren Steven Godsey Jr., Adrienne Brown, Jarod Wickham, and Amanda Brown, as well as her siblings Patricia Johnson, John Chancellor, and Ernest Chancellor. She was preceded in death by her sisters Dorothy Lowery, Shirley Griffin, Martha Kerr, and Bernice Bolton, as well as her brother Frederick Chancellor.
