Cheryl Ann Hogren was born on August 8, 1962 in McMinnville, Oregon to Jimmie and Mary Jane (Cunningham) George. Cheryl grew up as an “Army brat” and lived all over throughout her youth. She and her family lived in Thailand, Italy, Germany, Washington and Kentucky. After her father retired from the military, when Cheryl was 16 her family settled in Salem, Oregon, where they could be close to family. She briefly attended Sprague High School and North Salem High School. After high school, she joined the Army National Guard and did her basic training in Kentucky. Cheryl was blessed with a son, Chris. Later, she met Mark Hogren and they have been inseparable for the last 25 years. Together, they were blessed with a daughter, Jennifer. For the last 13 years Stayton has been their home. Throughout her life Cheryl worked for Fred Meyer, Prudential, Oregon State Fair, Oregon Cherry Growers and Albertina Kerr. She also spent time working at the Lloyd Ferry Farm, her experience working on the farm helped her with her most recent position working at Stayton Ace Hardware as the garden center manager for the last 3 years. Cheryl loved her job at Stayton Ace and many of her co-workers became a second family to her. Cheryl enjoyed roller skating, which she did until she got sick, fishing and reading. Cheryl’s favorite holiday was Christmas and she ensured her home was always fully decorated. She had a big heart for children and dogs. Cheryl would never miss an opportunity to offer to babysit for someone. Cheryl was always very social; attending Salem Alliance Church, and actively involved in a Bible study group at Bethel Baptist in Aumsville, Oregon. Anyone who knew Cheryl would describe her as always ready to help someone and caring. Everyone who met Cheryl soon realized that she loved God with all her heart. People and relationships were always most important to her. On April 27, 2019 Cheryl passed away after a valiant fight against cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Bill and sister, Carol. She is survived by her husband, Mark Hogren; children, Chris and Jennifer; siblings, Rick G., Deanna, Rick M., Dave and Tim in addition to several extended family members and friends.
