Clifford Warren Babbitt, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and educator, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2024. He was born on August 8, 1932, in Anadarko, Oklahoma, to the late Edith and Ruben Babbitt.

Clifford was a man of many passions and talents. He dedicated his life to education and community service, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of countless individuals. Clifford's journey in education began with his studies in animal science at Yakima Valley Jr. College where he would meet Lorraine B. Thomas his future wife and mother to his four children. He furthered his academic pursuits by earning a master’s degree in Elementary Education Administration from Eastern Oregon University.

For over five decades, Clifford called Oregon his home. He resided in Tygh Valley for 13 years before settling in Mill City, where he became an integral part of the community for 53 years. During his tenure in education, Clifford served as a dedicated school teacher and principal at Tygh Valley Elementary for 12 years. He later assumed leadership roles as both principal and teacher at Mari-Linn School in Lyons, Oregon. In his retirement from education he would take the role of executive secretary for the Oregon HBPA and would serve as a strong advocate for the horsemen in the horse race industry.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Clifford led a life filled with diverse interests and accomplishments. He proudly served his country in the Army and pursued his passion for baseball, playing minor league professional baseball. In his leisure time, Clifford enjoyed immersing himself in activities such as horse racing, farming, and cattle rearing. His love for animals extended beyond mere hobbies; it was a fundamental aspect of his character.

Clifford's legacy is not only defined by his professional achievements but also by the profound impact he had on his family. He was a cherished father to his children, Patricia, Douglas, Rebecca, and Tyrell. Clifford took immense joy in his role as a grandfather, relishing the moments spent with his beloved grandchildren, Jonathan Harris, Jay Harris, Jason Babbitt, Justin Babbitt, William Babbitt, Kyle Bibelhausen, and Erin Bibelhausen. Clifford is preceded in death by his siblings, Ferrell Babbitt and Betty Ruthenburg.

Clifford Warren Babbitt will be remembered fondly for his unwavering dedication, his generous spirit, and his profound love for both education and family. His legacy will forever inspire those whose lives he touched, leaving behind a lasting imprint of kindness, wisdom, and integrity.
