Darrel Boedigheimer June 26, 1944 – July 27, 2025
Darrel Boedigheimer passed away peacefully on July 27, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on June 26, 1944, to Ralph and Della (Fery) Boedigheimer, Darrel spent his entire life rooted in the communities of Mehama and Stayton, Oregon.
He was one of eight siblings and grew up alongside his brothers Gary, Ron, Alan, Melvin, Wayne, and Leland, and his sister Beverly. Darrel graduated from Stayton High School in 1962 and later attended Chemeketa Community College.
Darrel worked for 20+ years at Freres Lumber as both a driver and superintendent. He was also the proud owner and operator of Elkhorn Express. His work ethic and dedication earned him multiple honors, including the North American Safety Award for five consecutive years and recognition in truck beauty awards and spotlighted in calendars for Reliable Carriers.
On April 27, 1974, Darrel married the love of his life, Veleta (Dowers), and together they shared 51 wonderful years. They were blessed with his four children: Rick, Rex, Laura, and Jody, and over the years, their family grew to include 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren with one more on the way.
Darrel proudly served in the Oregon Army National Guard and was a committed member of the Mehama Community Church, where he also served as a deacon. He held life memberships in the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and the NRA, and contributed to his community as a board member of the old school community and youth center.
A man of deep faith, strong character, and gentle spirit, Darrel was quiet and soft-spoken, yet fiercely determined and hardworking. He found joy in the outdoors including fishing, hunting, hiking, camping, rock hounding, four-wheeling, motorcycling, and farming were among his many passions.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Gary and Melvin; his sister, Beverly; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Darrel is survived by his devoted wife, Veleta Boedigheimer; his children, Rick (Karen), Rex (Margaret), Laura (Dan) Houston, and Jody (Rob) Boedigheimer; his brothers Ron, Alan, Wayne, and Leland “Butch” Boedigheimer; as well as his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, integrity, and quiet strength that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
