David "Dave" Sekiya

David "Dave" Sekiya was born on April 5, 1937, in Mesa, Arizona, to Kentaro Sekiya and Virginia Gutierrez Fuentes. After graduating from high school, Dave proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served with distinction during the Vietnam War. Over the course of 31 years, he honorably served his country, retiring with the rank of Gunnery Sergeant (GYSGT, E7). His military career took him around the world, and during his service, he earned an associate degree.

In 1976, Dave moved to Stayton, Oregon with his fiancée, Patricia Ann Billings. The couple was married the following year on September 10, 1977, in Salem, Oregon, and spent the next 49 years building a life together.

Following his military retirement, Dave worked for the City of Salem Water Works, where he dedicated 29 years before retiring once again. He was an active and proud member of the Salem Elks Lodge #336.

Dave found great joy in raising his family, caring for his yard and garden, and spending time with loved ones. He was known for his storytelling, sense of humor, and his ability to make others laugh.

Dave was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Donna Hanson. He is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia Ann Sekiya; daughter, Danelle Sekiya; grandchildren: Sequoia Hanson, Zachary Hanson, Sheri Bloom, Rushana Sekiya, Gagge Savage, Laura Hanson, Gabriel Philips, Ethan Berndt, and Logun Berndt; and siblings, Sabro Sekiya and Kimi Sekiya. In addition to several extended family members and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 3:00 PM at 41010 Stayton Scio Rd, Stayton, OR 97383, with military honors presented at 3:30 PM.
