Donald ‘Don’ Francis Andal Jr. was born on April 15, 1953 in Salem, Oregon to Donald Andal Sr. and Joan Lee. Don grew up in Keizer, Oregon and from an early age knew that he wanted to become a carpenter and work in the construction trade. As a young man Don enjoyed, playing baseball, drag racing in sweetums and boxing. He attended and graduated from McNary High School, followed by starting a career alongside his dad with Andal and Son Construction. He met and married Marilyn; together they built their home that Don built from the groud up where they raised their family and Don resided in for 40 years. They had three children Amy, Melissa and Jill. Throughout his entire life Don was an incredibly hard worker who provided for his family. He was also very generous about donating his expertise to any friend or family member who needed it. Don showed his affection for others by what he did rather than what he said. Later in life, Don began a career with Anderson’s Construction which he worked for nearly 30 years and recently retired just 3 years ago. Worried that he would be bored at home, Don made it a point to call his daughters to check in on them and keep in touch. He also made many friends over the course of his lifetime at various restaurants he would frequent by just sharing a cup of coffee and conversation at Whites, Neufeldt’s or The Original Pancake House. He enjoyed watching Perry Mason, John Wayne, Star Trek and Bruce Lee movies. Don would also help his son-in-law’s with projects at their homes. Don was extremely good at fabricating or fixing anything. He never took short cuts and everything had to be done the right way from start to finish. In addition, Don also enjoyed attending events for his grandson’s Boy Scout events. Family was always the most important aspect of Don’s life. Just this Easter he spent it with his family, enjoying their company. Don passed away suddenly at age 66 on April 22, 2019 in Salem, Oregon. He was preceded in death by both his parents and is survived by his daughters, Amy (David) Harris, Melissa (Dan Becker) Andal and Jill (Travis) Jacopi; siblings, Debi, David and Danny; step mother, Betty Andal; 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 18th at 11am in Weddle Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made in Don’s name to Boy Scout Troop 258 in Canby, Oregon.
