Dorothy Summerlin

Dorothy Jean Summerlin, born July 20, 1936, in Meade, Oklahoma, passed away on July 31, 2026, in Salem, Oregon. She was the cherished daughter of Lillian (Brazell) and Gussie Womack. On May 27, 1953, while living in California’s San Joaquin Valley, she married Roosevelt Summerlin.

In her early years, Dorothy worked various production jobs. Later in life she went back to school to earn her G.E.D. and a beauty school degree before becoming a hairdresser, a profession that allowed her to blend artistry with compassion. After her work as a hairdresser, she earned her special needs healthcare license and began serving as a caretaker for both youth and adults. Her work in special needs care reflected her deep patience, empathy, and unwavering commitment to helping others feel safe, supported, and valued.

Dorothy was a woman of many talents and joys. She loved ceramics, quilting, sewing, gardening, and flowers. Whether she was firing a kiln, stitching a quilt, or tending to her garden, Dorothy poured her heart into everything she made. Her hands were always busy, and her spirit was always generous. She even made quilts for every member of her family.

Family was the center of Dorothy’s world. She is survived by her husband Roosevelt; her children Danny (LaDonna), Michael (Colleen), and Bryan Summerlin; her 11 grandchildren; 12 great‑grandchildren; and 3 great‑great‑grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Dwain (Glada) Womack, David Womack, and Denise (David “Skip”) Lott.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Doris Breashers and Deloris Madrid; and her brother DJ Womack.

A Celebration of Life will be held at her home on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 1:00 PM, where a light meal will be served for family and friends gathering to honor Dorothy’s memory. Her legacy lives on in the love she gave, the care she offered, and the countless handmade treasures and blooming garden she leaves behind.
