Fidelia M. Calvo

Fidelia was born on July 10, 1937 on Rota one of the Northern Mariana Islands to Felix and Jeronima (Taisacan) Mediola. Fidelia met Isaac and they married on May 26, 1955, eventually starting a family of 11 children. When some of Fidelia’s children moved to the States to attend college, Fidelia and Isaac decided to bring the rest of their children with them. They moved to Aumsville, Oregon in 1979 and had a small farm where they would raise their own cattle and a garden from which they would do lots of canning. Fidelia and Isaac became matriarchs and patriarchs for the Chamorro community, always welcoming someone into their home who was visiting or needed a place to stay. Fidelia was known for her welcoming hospitality and amazing meals she would make. Fidelia was known for her wonderful tasting empanadas and bonuelos. Everyone was welcome in her home and they would host large parties at their home, often including their neighbors. Some of her hobbies included sewing, crocheting and baking, but most of all her family was always her first priority. On September 29, 2014, Isaac passed away and Fidelia moved from Aumsville in with her daughter to be closer to family. On July 12, 2019, surrounded by family in West Linn, Oregon Fidelia passed away at age 82, just two days after she celebrated her birthday. Fidelia was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac and son, Michael Calvo. She is survived by her children, Joseph Calvo, Isaac (Ramona) Calvo, Anthony (Bernadita) Calvo, Patrick Calvo, Felix (Enterina) Calvo, Clara (Bill) Johnson, Lucy (Torrey) Murphy, Thomas (Annabele) Calvo, Edward (Min Kyoung) Calvo and Marian (Rodney) Jones; siblings, Sylvester, Terrie, Felix, Martin, Rosie and Otton; 30 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. A viewing will be held on Friday, July 19 from 3-8pm in Weddle Funeral Service with a rosary at 7pm. Mass will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 9:30 am in Immaculate Conception Parish with burial at St. Mary Cemetery in Stayton, Oregon. Weddle Funeral Service entrusted with arrangements.
