Celebration of Life and Potluck for Gary.
Gary Arthur Strom, 82, of Alsea, Oregon, passed away on April 11, 2026. He was born on October 13, 1943, in Eugene, Oregon, to Herman and Emma Strom.
Gary grew up in the Alsea Valley and spent much of his life rooted in the communities of Alsea and Lobster Valley. He graduated from high school in 1961 and went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army from 1963 to 1966, achieving the rank of E-5 Specialist.
On October 30, 1965, Gary married the love of his life, Trudy Ross, at Alsea Baptist Church. Together they built a life centered on family, hard work, and community.
Gary was known as a true "jack of all trades." Over the years, he worked as a timber faller and saw shop owner, earning the respect of those who knew him for his skill, work ethic, and willingness to lend a hand. He was deeply involved in his community, serving on school boards, budget planning committees, the fire department board, and as a member of the Grange and the Citizen Advisory Committee.
He had a wide range of hobbies and passions. Gary enjoyed flying as a pilot, hunting, fishing, following the stock market, playing horseshoes, and spending time around the card table playing cribbage and poker. He also loved traveling and was a gifted storyteller who never met a stranger.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Trudy Strom; his children, Todd Alan Strom, Troy Lynn Strom (Mareanne), and Travis Charles Strom (Kristi); his grandchildren, Brandon Strom (Jessica), Justin Strom (Brittany), Blake Strom, and Tristen Strom; and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Margie Ferris (Eldon), Jerry Strom (Kathy), and Pam Anderson (David).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Emma Strom, and his brother, Gilbert Strom.
Gary will be remembered for his warmth, humor, generosity, and deep dedication to his family and community.
Memorial contributions may be made in Gary's honor to the Alsea Fire Department.
