Gerald Thomas Spellmeyer

May 17, 1939 — December 22, 2025

Gerald “Jerry” Thomas Spellmeyer, 86, was born on May 17, 1939, in Paxton, Nebraska, to Frank and Alma Spellmeyer.

Jerry graduated from Stayton high school in 1957. He enlisted in the Army National Guard. 

Jerry married Sandra Vance in 1961. They were married 22 years and had two daughters, Jody and Sherry. They raised their family in Silverton, OR. They built a life centered on family, hard work, and community. 

Jerry relished being a part of and helping his community. Over the years he was a member and held office in several community organizations. 

Professionally, Jerry enjoyed a long and successful career in banking and financial operations. He was committed to assisting community members in meeting their financial goals. The latter half of his career he was a bank examiner, with the state of Oregon then Washington. He retired in 2004, moved to Aumsville, OR, where he continued his hobbies, community work and enjoyed the care of his home and property. 

Jerry enjoyed playing sports and was an avid sports fan. His most enjoyable activity was dancing. He loved music and gracefully leading a partner across the dance floor. 

Jerry was a man of humor. He took pleasure in having a witty comeback. It made his day to make someone smile or laugh. 

Jerry passed away peacefully on December 22, 2025. He is survived by his sister, Sharon Longfellow, and his oldest daughter, Jody Spellmeyer. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Ron, and his daughter, Sherry. 

His celebration of life will be held Sunday, May 17, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Weddle Funeral Service in Stayton, Oregon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the following organizations that held a special place in Jerry's heart: Paralyzed Veterans of America, Wounded Warrior Project, The USO, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, and Boys Town.
