Harold Warren Carter Powell, affectionately known as "Slim," passed away peacefully on September 4, 2024, at the age of 72. Born on April 13, 1952, in Ventura, California, to Mason and Jeanette “Jean” Powell, Harold was one of eight siblings and grew up surrounded by family. His childhood was filled with the love and companionship of his brothers and sisters: Mason, James ("Jim"), Jeanie, Edward ("Ed"), Catherine, Becky, and Alice.
A proud graduate of Fillmore High School, Class of 1971, Harold went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Navy. His dedication earned him several commendations, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and The Battle Efficiency Ribbon. Harold took great pride in his service, which formed the foundation of his strong work ethic and deep sense of patriotism.
He married Pamela K. Dodd in 1976, and they divorced in 1987. He then married Quince O’ Reilly in 1994 until they separated. The last 13 years of his life he found companionship with Sherry Wilson. Together, they lived a very fulfilled and happy life living in Aumsville, Oregon.
Over the years, Harold made his home in various cities, including Ventura, Fillmore, and Bakersfield in California, and later, Pahrump and Las Vegas in Nevada, as well as Turner and Aumsville in Oregon. Throughout his life, Harold wore many hats—quite literally, as he was an avid hat collector. Professionally, he was a man of many talents, working as a mechanic, cab driver, tow truck driver, and long-time driver for a trucking company. His versatility and dedication to his work earned him the respect of his colleagues and customers alike.
Harold had a passion for life that extended beyond his career. He was an enthusiastic tennis and basketball player, and he loved nothing more than going on car rides, singing along to his favorite country music tunes. Artists like Conway Twitty, Waylon Jennings, and Ronnie Milsap filled his life with joy and accompanied him on many of his adventures. Above all, Harold cherished time spent with his family and friends. His warmth and laughter were a source of comfort to those who knew him.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Mason and Jeanette Powell, his brother Jim, and his sister Jeanie. He is survived by his children, Michelle, Jeanette, Justin, Christina, and Jeremiah ("Jay") and grandchildren, Casey, Hannah, Alexander “Alex”, Jayden, Malana, Noah, Frank “Frankie” Jr., Emory, Ricky, Matthew, Karter and a great grandson, Swayde Earl. His love for his family was boundless, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
