On February 17, 2026, a beloved husband, brother, step-father, grandfather and friend won his battle over Alzheimer’s disease.

Herbert Philip Barth (Phil) was born June 24, 1942, to Herbert Henry Barth and Bertha Marie Bjorkquist at Marshfield, now Coos Bay, Oregon.

Phil was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the woods and worked in the forest industry after returning from active duty with the US Army in Germany.

He received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Oregon State University and started his employment at Chemeketa Community College. He subsequently became the Business Manager and retired from the College in 2007.

He met and married his eternal partner, Marteena, on September 22, 1995, during a family fishing vacation at Diamond Lake, Oregon. They were later sealed in the Portland Temple.

Phil was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints. He held numerous positions including Branch President, but working with missionaries was one of his favorite duties.

He is survived by his wife, Marteena, his brother Wayne (Judy) Barth, step-children Carrie Anne (Josh) Wilson, Kevin Jonathan (Debbi) Luth, Cory Daniel (Sarah) Luth, and grandchildren Donna Wilson, Isabel Wilson, Lucas Luth, Jude Luth and Everett Luth. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Andrew Moats.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family requests any donations be made to Mission Hospice Services of Salem.
