Fir-Ridge Holstein Farm
Starts at 3:00 pm (Pacific time)
Ida B. (Luscher) Ruby January 3, 1943 – May 12, 2026 Scio – Ida passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family. Born in West Linn Oregon, Ida was the second of four children born to Rudolph and Esther Luscher, who owned and operated a prominent registered Holstein herd. It’s because of cows that she met her husband, Ray Ruby, a dairy farmer from Scio, while driving her father to a Holstein Association activity. In 1966, Ray and Ida married and began cultivating their farm and home together, combining registered Holstein cows from both of their parents’ dairy farms to develop Fir-Ridge Holstein Farms, milking approximately 75 cows.
Soon after becoming Ida Ruby and moving to Scio, she delved in as only Ida could. She quickly got a job at the local bank, milking cows before and after work. Throughout Ida’s banking career, she won numerous statewide banking achievement awards. Her 30-year career in banking provided her the financial background that she could apply to her family’s growing dairy farm business and also for the many leadership roles she held in numerous local, state and national organizations and several youth scholarship foundations. Ida’s passion for helping people was evident in the many volunteer activities that she was involved with over the past six decades. She served as secretary-treasurer of several local, county, and state agriculture associations. She also served on several local, state and national scholarship foundations. Even though Ida was most comfortable working in the background and not receiving accolades, she received numerous awards from organizations such as Oregon Dairy Farmers Association, Oregon Dairy Women, Holstein Association U.S.A., Oregon FFA Association, Scio FFA, and Oregon State University.
Ida was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a wonderful grandmother and a genuine friend to many. She was generous with her time and gifts, selfless in her efforts, caring to those around her, and inspirational to everyone.
Ida’s greatest joy was her family. Ida is survived by her siblings Rosalie (Regis) Raujol, Joyce Stemper, and Rudie Luscher; her children, Scott (Mimi) Ruby and Michele (Kevin) Wilson; 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband Ray.
A memorial service will be held at 3pm on Sunday, May 17, at Fir-Ridge Holstein Farm, in Scio. Memorial contributions can be made in Ida’s name to Scio Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 272, Scio, OR 97374.
