James "Jim" Dean Harris passed away on May 30, 2025. Born on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1957, in Woodburn, Oregon, to James Rondal Harris and Gertrude Thursie Morris, Jim was the youngest of his siblings. He grew up surrounded by love and strong family bonds, traits that defined his life and relationships.
Jim attended Molalla High School and later earned his GED before embarking on a career as a press brake operator. Ever eager to learn and explore new paths, he moved to California nine years later to become a massage therapist. In 2001, he returned to Oregon, where he found his place at NORPAC as a refrigeration engineer. It was there that he met DD Hess, a friendship that blossomed into a deep connection, culminating in their marriage in Las Vegas, Nevada, on October 14, 2005.
A true adventurer at heart, Jim loved to travel, particularly along the West Coast. His most cherished trip took place in September 2024 when he and DD journeyed through seven national parks in Utah and Nevada, creating memories that would last a lifetime.
Jim had a passion for cooking, often experimenting with new recipes he found online. His homemade pasta was a masterpiece, and he delighted in teaching his grandsons the delicate art of its preparation. He also found solace in reading, fishing wherever he could cast a line, and bow hunting for elk and deer. Camping, especially at Murders Creek in John Day, was another favorite pastime.
To those he didn’t know, Jim may have seemed reserved, but once he felt comfortable, his humor could catch anyone off guard, bringing laughter and warmth to any conversation.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and four of his siblings. Jim is survived by his loving wife, DD Harris, and his children: James Harris (Lacey), Jacob Harris (Brieana), Jared Harris, Jordan Harris, and Kerri Tatum. His greatest joy was his grandchildren, whom he adored: Destinie Tatum, KC Tatum, Wyatt Tatum, Weston Harris, Jaelyn Harris, Jameson Harris, Warrior Harris, Wavoka Harris, and baby Harris on the way. He also leaves behind his siblings: Pat Ross, Jean Payne, John Taylor, Kay McMichael, Rose Ross, and Linda McMichael (Frank).
