Joelynn Dee Obadencio, born February 5, 1964, in Hilo, Hawai‘i, passed away on December 11, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, service, and unwavering devotion to her family and community. The daughter of Jane Kuualoha Obadencio (Kamali‘i) and Ermito Toi Obadencio, Joelynn spent her childhood in Kona, where the values of ‘ohana, hard work, and compassion first took root in her heart.
In adulthood, Joelynn made her home in Oregon, where she lived for 25 years and built a meaningful career dedicated to caring for others. She worked as a CNA, caregiver, activities director, and later as an administrator of an assisted living facility. No matter her role, Joelynn approached her work with a servant’s heart, offering comfort, dignity, and joy to countless individuals and families. Her warm smile and gentle spirit made every room brighter, and she treated each person she met with genuine kindness.
Outside of her work, Joelynn found joy in the simple pleasures that connected her to her roots and to the people she loved. She enjoyed crabbing on the coast, spending quiet hours creating Diamond Dots, cooking Hawaiian and Filipino meals that brought everyone to the table, and most of all, playing with her grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
Joelynn was a mother, partner, sister, daughter, grandma, aunty, and friend; roles she embraced wholeheartedly. She gave love freely and lived with generosity, humility, and grace. Her presence was a comfort, her laughter a blessing, and her heart a place of refuge for many.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; two sisters; and her beloved granddaughter, Reyna Mursch.
Joelynn is survived by her loving partner, Debra Colon; her sisters Cynthia Welser and Peggy Obadencio; her daughter Kuualoha Mursch and son‑in‑law Tyler Mursch; and her cherished grandchildren Tony Ormsby, Troy Mursch, Evalani Mursch, Bently North, and Aria North. She leaves behind a large extended ‘ohana and many friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
Joelynn’s life was a testament to love in action. Though she will be deeply missed, the warmth she shared and the lives she touched will continue to shine for generations.
