Johannes C. De Jong unexpectedly passed away on April 4, 2026, at his home with the love of his life by his side.

Johannes was born on February 6, 1987, to Jerry and Gale De Jong in Lebanon, Oregon. Growing up on the family’s dairy farm in Scio, he was the quintessential protective older brother to his younger sisters. From a very young age, his father taught him a strong work ethic, leading him to work side by side with his father as a dairyman and ultimately taking over the dairy himself.

The farm was more than work to Johannes- it was a lifelong passion and part of his identity. But above all, his heart was with his people. He was everyone’s best friend and was loved by so many. He was known for being incredibly knowledgeable—a true “human encyclopedia.” He was the first person anyone called because he always had the answers.

Outside of work, he had an extreme passion for music. Attending concerts and festivals was where he felt most alive. Despite the massive crowds, his height made him a natural beacon for his friends; you could always find your way back to the group just by looking for Johannes. He had a rare gift for making everyone feel seen and included, turning every event into a lifelong memory.

He met Kristi Childress, and they built a beautiful life for over 15 years. Together they made countless memories, and she gave him the greatest gift of all: a family to call his own. He is survived by his girlfriend, Kristi; his stepchildren and their spouses, Trenton and Savannah, Laiken and Kyle; his grandsons, Emery and Zion, his great grandson Julian and he was greatly looking forward to the arrival of his first granddaughter. He is also survived by his mother Gale, siblings, Carl, Mari, and Hannah. His nephews Austin, Brayden,Wyatt, Raylan and nieces Michaela and Keria. He is preceded in death by his father, Jerry, and his son, Tiegan.

He will be laid to rest at Franklin Butte Cemetery in Scio, Oregon.

Johannes leaves behind a legacy of hard work, laughter, and deep love for the people who meant the most to him. In the words of Grateful Dead, “Once in a while you get shown the light.” Johannes was that light for so many, and he will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
