John passed away peacefully at home—just where he wanted to be—with his beloved wife and daughters by his side.
John was an extraordinary man. A devoted husband, loving father, cherished son, brother, grandfather, uncle, in-law, friend, and respected coworker.
He had a heart as strong and steady as the concrete he worked with for over 35 years, including 8 years running a successful business of his own.
There isn’t a corner of Oregon that doesn’t carry a piece of John's legacy—his hands helped build it all: phone towers, bridges, hospitals, businesses, homes, and more. His craftsmanship and commitment left a permanent mark on the community he cared so much about.
John could build or fix anything he set his mind to. His work wasn’t just a job—it was a contribution, a gift. And in return, he was surrounded by incredible coworkers and lifelong friends. They gave him the most moving sendoff: concrete mixer trucks, concrete pump trucks, company and personal rigs lined the street outside his home, honking their horns in a final heartfelt hello. He heard them. He felt the love.
So if you knew John—give a honk. He’ll hear you.
John is survived by his loving mother, Marcia; his daughters and their families:
• Shantae & Caleb with daughters Shanelle, Kinley and Layla
• Whitney & Travis and their little one on the way.
He is also survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law and their children:
• Gina & Doug with Courtney, Deacon, and Cambria
• Brenda & Greg with Ashley and Dillon
His in-law family, whom he loved like his own: Morse, Tanya, Kaylee, Maurice, Mary, Marcus, and Marley.
When John left this world, he was greeted by his father, Wendal, and his sister, Joanna.
John and Cheryl were married for 13 years—a true love of a lifetime. Their bond was deep, joyful, and unwavering.
John’s laughter was contagious, his hugs warm and safe. He was the kind of man who showed up when you needed him, who gave his love freely and fully. His sense of humor could light up any room, and his heart made others feel at home.
The world has lost a one-of-a-kind soul. He can never be replaced. He is already deeply missed.
