John Albert Donehoo, a devoted husband, beloved father, proud veteran, and skilled computer systems programmer, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2025, at the age of 74.

Born on August 16, 1950, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, John was the son of the late John and Irene Donehoo. He spent his early years in Oxon Hill, Maryland, graduating from Oxon Hill High School in 1968. That same year, he answered the call to serve his country and joined the United States Marine Corps, where he was stationed in Philadelphia from 1968 to 1972.

In the years following his military service, John began his professional career in computer systems programming, a field in which he worked from 1973 until his retirement in 2005. He spent over two decades at Kaiser Permanente, where he applied his talents with dedication and integrity.

On July 4, 1976, John married the love of his life, Tara Patterson, in Golden, Colorado. Together, they raised two children, Robin Patterson and Derric Donehoo, building a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. One of John's proudest achievements was building their family’s log home, a labor of love that stood as a testament to his craftsmanship and determination.

John’s life journey took him from his Maryland roots to Colorado and eventually to Yamhill, Oregon, where he lived from 1993 until his passing. He found great joy in the outdoors and was an avid lover of America’s national parks. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles, and he was rarely without a Louis L’Amour or Nero Wolfe novel nearby. His deep appreciation for nature and storytelling reflected his adventurous spirit and thoughtful mind.

John is survived by his wife of 48 years, Tara Patterson; their children, Robin Patterson and Derric Donehoo; his sister, Erie Genova; and many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Irene Donehoo.

John will be remembered as a wonderful father, a loving husband, a steadfast friend, and a man of quiet strength and unwavering loyalty. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the home he built with his own hands.
