John Robert Jackson

John Robert Jackson, born June 5, 1948, in Tacoma, Washington, to Hazel “Patricia” Lillian (Murphy) and Robert Morris Jackson, lived a life shaped by service, devotion, steady craftsmanship, and the quiet joys that made his days full. He passed away on July 18, 2026, in Sublimity, Oregon.

John spent his early years in Tacoma before moving with his family to Salem, Oregon. He graduated from South Salem High School in 1967. Shortly after graduation, he answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States Navy. From 1967 to 1971, John completed three tours of duty in the Vietnam War, serving with honor and resilience. His years in the Navy shaped him deeply, instilling a sense of discipline, loyalty, and quiet strength that stayed with him throughout his life.

On May 11, 1980, John married Vickie Louise Barnett, beginning a long and loving marriage built on partnership, humor, and unwavering support. Together they created a home filled with warmth and the kind of everyday moments that become treasured memories.

Professionally, John dedicated many years to the State of Oregon Department of Corrections, where he worked as an Energy Technician 2. Outside of work, John embraced hobbies that reflected his curiosity and craftsmanship. He loved N Gauge model trains, carefully building and tending to intricate layouts. He enjoyed model boats, fishing, and taking peaceful trips to the Oregon coast, where the rhythm of the waves and the open horizon brought him joy.

John was preceded in death by his father, Robert; his mother, Patricia; and his brother, James Jackson.

He will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife Vickie Louise Jackson, his brother Jerry Jackson, his children Christina Leanne Shepherd and Robert Allen Jackson, and his grandchildren Alex Shepherd, Cali Shepherd, Capri Jackson, Zeppelin Jackson, Enzo Jackson, and Rocco Jackson, each of whom brought him pride, laughter, and deep affection.
