Karla Marie
Green
May 18, 1946 – April 25, 2026
Karla Marie (Kerr) Green, born May 18, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan, to Doris A. (Zimmer) Kerr and Robert W. Kerr passed away on April 25, 2026, in Salem, Oregon.
Karla spent her early childhood in Jackson, Michigan, with her brother James W. Kerr before her family moved to Covina, California, in 1957. She graduated from Covina High School with the Class of 1964 and went on to pursue her dream of becoming an educator. She attended San Diego State University, earning her Bachelor's degree in Education in 1969.
On April 6, 1974, Karla married William Green in Covina. The couple later made their home in Santee, California. After their divorce, Karla settled in El Cajon, where she remained for many years before relocating to Salem, Oregon, in 2016 to be closer to family.
Karla dedicated her entire professional life to teaching junior high students in the San Diego Unified School District. She brought patience, structure, and a genuine belief in young people to her classroom, retiring in 2003 after decades of service.
Outside the classroom, Karla embraced a wide range of interests. She was passionate about horseback riding and dressage competition, and she proudly owned two horses that brought her joy and companionship. She also loved arts and crafts, and in her later years she found comfort and satisfaction in creating beautifully detailed coloring pieces.
Karla was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her brother, James W. Kerr, who carries forward the memories of their shared childhood and the enduring bond they maintained throughout their lives.
Karla will be remembered for her dedication to education, her love of animals, her artistic spirit, and the quiet strength with which she moved through the world. Her life touched many, and her memory will remain a source of warmth and gratitude for those who knew and loved her.
