Kathryn JoAnn Heinonen

Kathryn JoAnn Heinonen, a devoted mother, loving grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2025 at the age of 79. Her life was one of quiet strength, kindness, and deep devotion to those she loved.

Born on April 9, 1946, in Duluth, Minnesota, Kathryn was the daughter of Kenneth Erickson and Esther Johansen. She grew up alongside her sister, Mary Johnson, and graduated from Clover Valley High School in 1964. That same strong Minnesota spirit led her through life, guiding her choices and nurturing her family.

She married Clifford Eugene Heinonen in Duluth, and together they built a life full of love, perseverance, and commitment. Kathryn and Clifford raised two children, Ann Staten and Robert Heinonen, and were later blessed with two grandchildren, Gregory Davis and Casey Staten, who brought her immeasurable joy.

Kathryn spent many years working with her hands and heart as a skilled seamstress at Caddis Manufacturing and Sterns, where she helped craft lifejackets and other garments. Later in life, she worked as a receptionist, where her warmth and calm presence were a comfort to many. No matter the role, she carried herself with grace, humility, and a strong work ethic.

In 1986, Kathryn and her family moved from Minnesota to Florida, where they spent four years before settling in Oregon in 1990—a place she would call home for the rest of her life. She found peace in its quiet beauty and joy in creating a warm home there.

Kathryn had a deep love for crocheting, and her hands were rarely still. She created countless handmade treasures for friends and family—each one stitched with love and care. Her craft was a reflection of who she was: patient, creative, and generous.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clifford Eugene Heinonen; her sister, Mary Johnson; and her son, Robert Heinonen. Though her absence leaves an ache in the hearts of many, her memory will live on in every story shared, every stitch sewn, and every life she touched.

Kathryn is survived by her daughter, Ann Staten, and her cherished grandchildren, Gregory Davis and Casey Staten.
