Ken was born to Mary and Robert Hunger in Hillsboro OR. He was one of 6 children. Much of his childhood was spent with his grandparents, Charles and Edith Keightley, in the Amity and Hopewell OR area.
Ken completed his GED and attained valuable mechanical skills at Job Corp in the early 70’s.
Ken and his wife of almost 50 years, Susan, made their home in Salem. Ken always worked with his hands and retired from the Seaman Restaurant Corporation where he serviced equipment for multiple McDonald restaurants. After retirement, he enjoyed his daily free breakfast and visiting with friends.
Ken loved helping and talking with people. He knew a lot about a lot of things and was happy to tell you. He loved music and sharing it with his nieces, nephews and friends.
He was known as the “Squirrel man’ after the Statesman Journal published a photo of him feeding the squirrel at Bush Park. He would sit at the base of a tree, and they would take peanuts from him, he did this daily for many years. He also enjoyed fishing, working on computers, printing and transferring photos to digital, RC cars, being a rockhound, creating his own homemade medicine and remedies, and spending time with family.
Ken was a character, he would tell you what he thought without filter, he had a huge heart, those he loved he loved for life. He will hold a very special place in the heart of many whose life he touched.
He was blessed to have a large family. Survived by his wife, Sue Hunger. Mother-in-law Arlene Trout; Brother Bob Hunger (Joanne), Sisters, Barbara Mayberry (Bob), and Sandy Seifert. Brother-in-law Larry Trout (Barbara), Sister in Laws Donna Keightley (Dan), and Charlene McLain (Don); 14 Nephews and nieces, many great nephews and nieces and cousins.
