Larry James Fisher passed away peacefully at the age of 86, surrounded by his family and the steady grace he gave to others his whole life.

Born in Dayton, Ohio, and raised in San Jose, California, Larry was a man of quiet brilliance and profound spiritual depth. He spent 35 years as a beloved science and math teacher, shaping young minds with clarity, patience, and a passion for understanding how the world works. He also coached, mentored, and inspired—both in the classroom and on the field.

Larry was a man who pondered life’s mysteries with reverence and who lived by two guiding lights: gratitude and belief. He believed in kindness. In generosity. In the quiet dignity of respect. And above all, in the power of truly seeing others.

He didn’t try to change people. He simply received them. Fully. Gently. With deep, unwavering acceptance. He held space for others in a way few do—open, steady, and full of perspective.

Larry loved the outdoors, especially the stillness and joy of fishing. He found sacredness in nature and wonder in the everyday. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Joy Fisher, for 65 years—a partnership marked by devotion, quiet joy, and deep love. Together they raised two daughters—Kris Harris and Lisa Johnson—first in California and later in Oregon, where they made their home.

To his family, Larry was a loving father, a gentle guide, and a reservoir of wisdom. To his students, a calm and brilliant teacher. To all who knew him, he was a bright-eyed, steady presence—warm, intelligent, and deeply good.

He will be remembered not for any need to impress, but for the space he created simply by being himself. He was, in every way, a man of grace.
