Madelyn “Lynn” Esther Elder was born June 9, 1950, in Lebanon, Oregon, to Archie Herbert and Esther (Beach) Hopper. She grew up in the Lebanon/Sweet Home area. The family had a farm and grew their own food, preserving and canning what they could, especially jams and jellies. The family had Tennessee Walker and Arabians, and Lynn loved her horses. Lynn was the first woman to be on the Linn County Mounted Posse. Lynn enjoyed crocheting and made items for her friends and family including blankets and pot holders among many other items. She also liked to read and bake. Lynn was a very loving person, always concerned about others over her own self. She was selfless and sweet. Lynn passed away on March 29, 2019, with her son Ian by her side. She attended church with Ian at New Hope Four Square church in Salem. The church has been a blessing to Ian, supporting him through this difficult loss. Lynn was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Roy. She is survived by her son Ian and siblings Herb (Judy) Hopper, Anne (Jim)Hulst, and Vernell. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made directly to Simonka Place for Women and Children in Lynn’s name.
