Margaret Leila Tobey

October 27, 1933 — December 7, 2025

Margaret Leila Tobey (Lee), beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed peacefully after a long and full life, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and warmth. She was born on October 27, 1933, in San Jose, California, to Tony and Anita (Chacon) Orlando. She grew up in California and would graduate from San Jose High School.

On August 29, 1954, she married the love of her life, Don Tobey. Their marriage was a beautiful partnership that spanned more than six decades, until Don’s passing in 2017. Together, they built a family grounded in love, laughter, and faith.

Lee retired as a key punch operator for the State of Oregon but never retired from the things that brought her joy. She cherished every moment spent with her family and lit up whenever surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed watching cooking shows and Hallmark movies, and she enthusiastically joined Zumba classes at Cascades—always embracing life with energy and enthusiasm.

Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. Lee was involved in Foothills Community Church, and she rarely missed the weekly services brought to her at Cascades of Stayton. She looked forward with peace and hope to the day she would be reunited with the Lord and her loved ones who went before her.

Lee is survived by her children: Kevin Tobey (Cindi), Mike Tobey (Carol), Kelly Owen (Willis), John Tobey, Mary Liedtke (Ken), and DJ Tobey (Gail); 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in passing by her parents; her sisters, Marie Stewart and Jennie McCartin; and her beloved husband, Don Tobey.

Lee will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, her unwavering faith, and her boundless love for her family. Her memory will continue to inspire all who knew her.
