Michael “Mike” Duane Harris, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, curiosity, and unwavering devotion to family. Born on August 8, 1971, in Rupert, Idaho, Mike was the cherished son of Helen Mae Harris (Bowman) and Kenneth James Harris. He passed away on August 28th, 2025 in Salem, Oregon. His early years were shaped by the warmth and strength of his family, and he carried those values with him throughout his life.

Mike grew up in Salem, Oregon, where he attended Parrish Middle School and South Salem High School. He also spent a formative period in the Detroit area of Oregon as a teenager, a time that deepened his love for the outdoors.

A true outdoorsman at heart, Mike found joy in camping trips with his family, casting lines into quiet waters, and sharing stories around the campfire. He had a knack for mechanics and could often be found tinkering with engines, fixing what others thought was beyond repair, or simply exploring how things worked. His passion for movement extended to the skies, where he was always ready with a kite in hand, eager to share the thrill of flight with his children and grandchildren.

Mike’s interests were as varied as they were vibrant. He was a skilled bowler, a devoted NASCAR fan, and as a teen, could masterfully play hacky sack. He had a playful curiosity that led him to watch countless Bigfoot videos, always open to the mysteries of the world. His competitive spirit shone brightest at the poker table, where he earned numerous accolades and the respect of fellow players.

Above all, Mike was a family man. He was deeply involved in the lives of his children—Khali, Kody, Desireé, Darin, Savannah, and Samantha—and found immense joy in his role as a grandfather to Ariel, Scarlett, Harlow, Azariyah, Elihana, Kayluv, Elijah, Kiarah, Adrian, and Aaron. Whether it was teaching them about flight, sharing his love of mechanics, or simply being present, Mike’s love was constant and boundless.

He is also survived by his siblings Brenda, Ivan, Kenny, and Linda, who will remember his humor, generosity, and the unique spark he brought to every gathering. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Kenneth “Jim” Harris, whose memory he honored through the life he lived and the family he nurtured.

Mike’s life was a testament to the joy of simple pleasures, the thrill of discovery, and the power of connection. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
